Hello VC Students and professionals, Let me share what you can expect when working with me, along with some information about my education, experience, skills, and hobbies.
Whether youβre coming to me to help with VC work, professional development, or business cases and challenges, I will:
β’ Chat with you before we start to understand the context and your needs
β’ Give you a free 30-minute consultation. (You'll also have Wyzant's first lesson good fit guarantee after that.)
β’ Respect your time and budget with a plan that works for you
β’ Assist you in developing your way of thinking as we work to accomplish your goal
β’ Meet you at your level of understanding
My experience:
I have a Master's of Business Management (MBA) from top 25 University and then was admitted into the crown-jewel of the program: the University Venture Capital Fund. There I had the rare opportunity and privilege to direct the fund and teach MBAs. Iβve also worked at a top-decile VC firm on their fourth fund.
I have experience in multiple roles working and consulting for tech startups, incubators, accelerators, and an investment bank.
I've also tutored ACT prep. I now consistently score 35 or 34 on the ACT. Most importantly, every one of my ACT students improved their test scores! I'm determined to keep that record strong.
For Fun:
Just for fun, my hobbies: I take time to learn and meditate every day, and I spend my weekends in the arts or playing sports at the beach.
Finally, a hot tip! Hereβs what Iβve noticed after tutoring hundreds of students and consulting for dozens of clients. No matter who you choose to work with, do this: Strive to understand the highest level context first! That alone unlocks new opportunities.
I'm excited to hear your questions. Feel free to reach out!
Thank You,

I have a B.A. in English from SUNY, University at Buffalo, as well as an M.A. in English from the University of Rochester and a Ph.D. in English from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
I've been studying English language, literature, writing and public speaking for most of my life! I specialize in helping students read literature and other difficult texts, analyze such texts and compose lucid, professional writing. Having taught college courses in both literature and writing composition, I am well equipped to help you to read and write at the college level and beyond.
The importance of good reading and writing skills extends well beyond English classrooms. Regardless of your future career path, you'll have to read and write effectively in order to succeed and excel. I can help you to do that by teaching you to see all writing as participating in a genre with specific conventions, which I can teach you to recognize, analyze and employ. Such reading and writing techniques are applicable to virtually all high school and college level classes, as well as myriad real-world situations.

I am an experienced tutor having owned and operated a learning center for 10 years and tutored students privately now for 4 years. I enjoy teaching and am now working as a Special Education Assistant at a local elementary school helping students with special needs acquire an education. I have experience and skill teaching all ages and all grades up to and including preparing students for college entrance exams (SAT/ACT).
Here is what one Mom said about my tutoring services:
"Jeff started working with my 15 year old son in August of 2009. During this time, Jeff has displayed a genuine sensitivity to my sonβs particular learning challenges as well as our family dynamics. He steadfastly remains calm and supportive in the face of some demanding situations.
Itβs a pleasure to watch Jeff when he teaches. His voice is soft as he guides my son through the learning process. You can hear the gentle dialectic begin as my son begins to feel confident in his ideas. I think my son has learned more from Jeff these last eight months than he has in his ten years of schooling. Any parent would be extremely fortunate to have Jeff as part of their educational support network."

I have been teaching Spanish both privately and in a K-12 setting for over 10 years. After finishing the Teacher Education Program at UCSB, I taught Spanish as well as Spanish for Native Speakers for 3 years at a local high school, and then another 4 years at a private 7-12 school. My students learn through real life experiences and simulations. I can create similar situations for individual students or I can help with homework, conversation, reading, etc. I have tutored students up to level 4 IB and have a lot of experience teaching Spanish 1 and 2. I'm familiar with the high school curriculums and how to help a student through a class.
Before becoming a teacher, I spent 3 years working in both Costa Rica and Mexico. Most of that time was in Mexico and that is where most of my Spanish language experience comes from. I also studied abroad in Spain so I have a wide range of regional experience in the language.
I have both teaching and tutoring experience, and have spent a lot of time abroad living in Spanish speaking countries. I am patient, non-judgmental, relaxed, and I come with a wealth of teaching materials from my years teaching and traveling that I use to enhance the experience.

My job as Math Intervention Teacher was to provide students with help in the following high school math courses: Integrated I, II, and III (synonymous with Algebra 1 and 2, and geometry as well as a little bit of pre-calculus).
I helped students who were failing their classes pass with at least a C or better. It was my job to have an understanding of the material to the point where I could relay this information to students in a manner that made it easy to grasp. I love math, and love getting students see that it is not that scary after all!
I was a Math Intervention Tutor for eight months before starting a job for a tech company. I have private tutored for 7 years and have have tutored some students for almost 6+ years (6th grade to 12th grade math)

If you want help with some proven strategies to improve your overall understanding in a wide range of subjects I might be of some assistance.
From growing up and attending South Orange County Public Schools, to finishing Saddleback Junior College coursework to enrolling and finally getting the opportunity to graduate from the University of California at Santa Barbara, I've learned to love the process and the power of learning.
A while back I had a very rewarding opportunity to help manage and grow a humble tutoring center in Santa Barbara in the afternoons and evenings, while working the morning shift as a Teacher's Aide position at Cold Spring Elementary School.
Through those great experiences I was lucky to meet lots of wonderful families who really cared about and appreciated the overall quality of instruction I was able to provide their children.
I was inspired to continue my passion of teaching new students whenever possible. I have never met an animal that could beat me in chess or a student that could convince me they were incapable of learning new concepts. No child deserves to be bored. I offer my services to help you become a more effective student, a more meaningful human being, and a happier You. It can all start with a meet and greet. Have a good day.

I have been tutoring mathematics since I was in high school. Over almost two decades of experience in education, I've refined my methods of demonstrating mathematical concepts and connections to real life experiences. In alignment with the new common core standards, I've tutored mathematics to students in elementary, junior, and high school. What makes me a great tutor is my background in mathematics coupled with a welcoming and very patient personality. I work hard to make sure my students feel comfortable to ask questions, let me know when they are not understanding, and to make it clear that even I don't know all the answers so they I invite them to find my mistakes and witness how I think through problems and arrive at answers. My goal for my students is to help them develop the skills they will need to become stronger learners, especially perseverance and patience in the process of working through tasks.

I'm Doug! I recently got my master's degree from Princeton Seminary not too long ago and I love teaching! I particularly enjoy history and the humanities and making the material come to life for students. I do my best to adapt the material to the particular student so that they can engage and interact with their learning process. Lastly, I think the best learning happens when students feel like they can be themselves, so my top priority as a teacher is to create an atmosphere of safety, acceptance, and fun. I am a passionate individual who would love to teach your child.
I have experience teaching elementary and middle school classrooms at a history museum and providing individual childcare for students with special needs as well. As an essay editor at Interface Education and College Transitions, I have worked with students across the globe, in both high school and college, to help them develop personal and authentic application essays that have garnered acceptances from UCs to Ivy Leagues. As a marketing assistant and MCAT CARS instructor for The Princeton Review, I gained a comprehensive understanding of the college admissions process, including testing techniques and timelines.
I love working with students on their college application essays because it combines my love of the written word with my belief that everyone deserves to follow his/her dreams. Self-promotion can be tough, and admissions gatekeepers want to hear about what makes you specialβand yet you canβt sound like youβre bragging. I work with students to help them write essays that highlight their best qualities in the right way, so your prospective colleges will know why they should want you.
I have been teaching, tutoring, and professionally writing and editing for 10+ years, from my time as a UCLA English major to writer and editor at publications like Santa Barbara Magazine. Words are my passionβmy fiction has appeared in literary journals including Westwind, Glass Mountain, and (parenthetical), and my current work in progress is a young adult science fiction novel. My experience as an author makes me a knowledgeable grammarian in addition to my default mode as a word nerd, and in leading critiques, I create a nurturing environment and give feedback in a gentle, constructive manner. I love igniting my studentsβ passion for reading and writing in a way that makes them feel safe.
If youβre stumped about how to approach an assignment or the best topic for your personal statement, I will teach you how best to tackle those tasks and move toward your dreamsβwhether itβs an A on a test or your top university.

I graduated university cum laude, and was a member of my college's English Honors Society. I haven't tutored professionally before, but I was a proofreader on the university literary magazine and have often helped friends with writing projects.
I recently went 'back to school', and obtained a 100-hour ESL teaching certification from Oxford Seminars. Afterward, I decided I'd rather teach English in a one-to-one situation because those will allow me to better help you as a student, whatever stage in learning English that you might be at. I can do so in your own time, as well.
I am new to WyzAnt. So I do not have any prior, relevant tutoring experience. I am not new to speaking, reading and writing English, though. And being a native speaker, I'm familiar with the nuances involved in communicating using English.
If it's any aspect of the language you need help with, I can provide it. I specialize in spelling, reading and writing English. However, speaking and listening are equally important to learning the language, and I know how important grammar is to that end, also. I'm most interested in helping you at your own pace, and according to your own, individual learning abilities. Your personal interests are also very important to me, because we can use those to create lesson content you will be enthusiastic about undertaking and completing.
I have always been a careful user of the words in my native English language. And having been an English major and writer in school, and a writer in my free time now, I will not consider my teaching tasks complete until you can speak, write and comprehend English intelligently, no matter the areas of life in which you might choose to use it.
I do have a two-hour cancellation policy. Locations for tutoring sessions can be sorted out based on mutual convenience. I can help you whether you are an absolute beginner in English, or whether you are an advanced student - and anything in between. And, I look forward to hearing from you if you are interested in learning and/or progr

Hello, My name is Tim and I have worked with young people for over 25 years. I have employed them in small businesses I have owned, I have taught them in primary and secondary school, and I presently supervise and mentor them as a Personal Manager at UCSB. I have also been a Teachers Assistant in a Freshman Orientation class at UCSB for several years. I enjoy working with young people and helping them navigate their way through their early academic years. In all my time working with young people I have found that they constantly have questions and it is our responsibility as adults to help them find the answers, or a least work with them to find some solutions. This applies to academics and and life in general.
After working with our youth I have a good understanding of what your fears, anxieties and questions are. I have an easygoing personality that works well with young people and honestly I just have the ability to relate to you. I have a strong background in writing and have graded university level midterm and final papers for the UC writing requirements. Working with young people, I am able to understand the challenges they are experiencing academically and can help them make the adjustments they require to succeed. I hope to meet some of you soon and address some of your challenges head on.

Tutoring - University of California-Santa Barbara, CA
Hello! I'm Azzedin, or Azi for short. I am a published scientist and researcher who can help demystify math, physics, and programming. I am also available to help with test prep.
I began tutoring in an official capacity during my time at Purdue University, where I earned my BS in Materials Science and Engineering. There, I was one of the most sought after official tutors in the Minority Engineering Program, where I helped fellow undergraduates with Calculus 1-3, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, basic Materials Science, Physics, and MATLAB/Python. Most of my tutoring sessions were 1 on 1, but I also had review sessions before exams with groups 5-8 students. The students I worked with 1 on 1 consistently were able to get a grade of a B or higher in the course I was helping them in! I am very proud of that fact.
After getting my BS at Purdue, I moved over to the University of California, Santa Barbara to work on my doctorate in Materials Science. My research work sharpened my skills in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, and Python. I graduated in December and now I am available to provide help to whoever needs it!
If you would like my help, please send me a message! I will respond as soon as possible.

I'm Estefany. I graduated from Antioch University with a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology. All through my education, I figured out that my strengths were in language skills, English and writing. I have a deep passion for self expression through writing and language. I speak three languages fluently and I also like to write in my free time. I am also majorly passionate about helping others. While doing my higher education, I worked as an ESL / English tutor, I find that I am my best self when doing this as it brings everything I love together. I think there is so much satisfaction in seeing my students succeed and leave tutoring sessions more confident. They learn from me and I learn from them. I have worked with a very diverse group of students which is why I am very conscious of their learning styles and what works best for each student. I like to accommodate them as much as possible so they get the best out of our sessions.
I have been tutoring at a local community college for 6 years now. I have been tutoring for ESL all 6 six years and for the English department for 3 years. I work with adults from various backgrounds. I have tutored in classrooms of different levels of ESL in subjects such as Grammar, Reading and Writing. I also have been tutoring for a college level English class where I work in individual sessions via zoom. I even work weekends and make my schedule as flexible as possible as I know many students also have other responsibilities besides school. Prior to the pandemic, I worked in person in a tutoring center however, when the pandemic began. All my sessions transitioned to virtual and found them to be more effective as I can offer a more diverse schedule for my students and its more accessible since getting to a certain location is not always possible.
I always want to assure students get the most benefit from tutoring sessions. I like to hear their feedback and if they feel that my tutoring style or activities are effective.

Throughout my academic journey, I have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.5, and I am an Honors student in the UCSB Letters & Science program.
My previous experience in tutoring and teaching includes working as a Sports Anchor for UCSB TV, as well as a Broadcaster for KCSB Sports.
